A m e r i c a : N E W Y O R K // Manhattan Day 4 : Part 1 - Top of The Rock | Magnolia Bakery | Central Park

29th October 2015 | Thursday

Woke up and left Times Square at around 8.30am. We were heading to Top of the Rock/Rockefeller Centre Observation Deck to begin this beautiful day, we were so excited! Avenue of the Americas is just one street away from where we stay, we couldn't be any happier! Weather that day was great especially after the rain last night, we were looking forward to an awesome day!

So we walked our way there and bought a bagel and iced coffee from a stall while on our way there.

While on our way there, we visited Magnolia Bakery as it is very famous in this city. You can click on the link to their homepage. We did some homework prior our US trip and Magnolia Bakery is a must-go if you were to visit New York in the future. The cupcakes on display were so enticing and were wonderfully decorated for Halloween, it really got us in the mood! So, we bought two cupcakes and continued on our way to Rockefeller Plaza.

Top of the Rock is located in Rockefeller Plaza itself beginning at the 67th floor. So we went in the plaza, went to the counter to redeem our tickets. We read somewhere that the queue is usually long because Top of the Rock is usually crowded, but it wasn't when we were here. Guess we got lucky again as there was no queue at all!

[ Rockefeller Plaza is also the home of NBC studio that produced many great shows, among others, Saturday Night Live/SNL, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon etc. These two are our favorite. We are so blessed to have a chance to step into the building where these shows are produced. ]

Back to our main reason of going to Top of the Rock, which is for the view of New York City! We asked the staff about the view from the top and they said that the weather was a little cloudy since it rained last night and that we may not get the best view for the day since we came at around 9am. After hearing that, we felt a bit upset but we still had our hopes up that the view will still be breathtaking.

Truth be told, that frown on our face turned upside down. We were very still very happy to go there at that time because it wasn't as bad as they said, the view was very clear to me! When I thought about it, I wonder if they did that on purpose. *grin*

While on our way up, I saw the sign that says 'No food allowed'. I then told Iris about this and we were worried that we couldn't bring our cupcakes up. So, we had to get our stuffs scanned before proceeding and we cleared that! Seems that the 'no food allowed' was not strictly enforced. The photographer who was a staff there snapped a photo of us and even teased us for bringing cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery up there and that he wanted a piece of it, haha.

Voila, let the pictures do the talking!

Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World starts playing in my head when I was taking in all this view.

I bet everyone knows about Jimmy Fallon, right? If you don't, go check out his YouTube videos this instant! His show is very entertaining and I definitely admire his talents and personality. We wanted to be in show so much but we couldn't as the tickets were all out. I tried to get the tickets to his show since two weeks before I traveled to US and they were all out the whole November, so sad. Hopefully I can see his show in the future when I visit NY again. Our next destination is the park that was in the picture taken when we were on Top of the Rock. Central Park!!

We took the subway at Rockefeller Plaza and headed to the Museum of Natural History as we wanted to begin our journey from the West side of Central Park and also take a picture with Theodore Roosevelt.

Pretzel and Mustard Hot Dog for lunch! This Sabrett brand was seen everywhere in the streets of New York and so we thought that we should try it! Not bad in my opinion, but not enough to trigger my taste buds. We literally did not bother much about eating and just bought food while on our way just to prevent hunger, time is of the essence for we realised the trip in NY was short. I felt bad for my appetite and the foodie in me that wanted to go for better food in the city. We were supposed to go for a famous Pretzel shop called Sigmund's and also Dominique Ansel Kitchen for the DKA set! Well, water under the bridge, leave that for the future me to savor them.

I'll certainly say that the day was going great, I love Central Park to the max! The park is amazingly scenic and the place really makes me feel at peace. All the greens and the beautiful coloured leaves of autumn really took my heart away! The park is huge and it could take a whole day to really explore and take in the beauty of this paradise. The place is so clean you could really just sit on the ground and suck all the fresh air in! We can spend a whole day doing nothing and chill in Central Park but we have to move on to the next location due to time constraint.

I also love the things going on around here, there's this group of people doing some street performance and it's really great! What is very inspiring is that these people would rather do something to earn money rather than just begging on the streets, this is the right thing to do. I'm very supportive of this and would love to see more of this elsewhere in any other countries.

This sums up for part 1, part 2 will be up soon when there's more time for me blog about this. Hope you enjoyed the photos so far.
